Gratitude and how it can transform your life?

May 21, 2020

What are you grateful for today?

In a time of immense uncertainty there couldn't be a greater need for gratitude.

Gratitude is not a practice that can only be practiced when all is going well in your life, it is a foundation for when times are tough and you need to stabilise your life and be able to find positivity when life changes unexpectedly.

Gratitude can be found in the simplest pleasures, such as a beautiful view, good food, spending time with your children or just feeling healthy.

Practicing gratitude is best done daily. Either at the beginning or the end of the day or both.

We have all been stripped of our sense of security recently which has thrown many people into fear of the unknown.

Take a moment to contemplate what is important to you. What could you not live without?

For myself it has been my home, my health and my family and friends. These are all things that i am grateful for daily, even if my work is insecure and life is looking very uncertain, these are aspects of my life I can always be thankful for.

This time has given us all the opportunity to reflect on what is important to us, how we are living our lives and we want to live as we move into the future and come out the otherside of the pandemic.

So how does gratitude work?

Being thankful, expressing gratitude for what you have in your life will promote positive thoughts, these will then create positive emotions which will release a range of hormones such as oxytocin, this is a hormone important for bonding, it is the same hormone that is released when mothers give birth. Serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine are also released and these hormones can help with depression and anxiety.

One of the most beneficial and simple things your mental well-being is to write a daily gratitude list.

Why not start today?

Get yourself a notebook and write 3 things you are grateful for today.

Do this for 14 days and see your mindset, mood, mental health, sleep, and your overall physical health improve.
